The Honest Dog
When Zoey was a puppy, we decided to go on our first driving trip, from St. Paul to Sugar Island, MI. The trip was a success, until my husband accidentally swerved over to the side of the highway and hit the dreaded 'rumble zip'. Zoey was never the same about long-distance driving again - she fears rumble strips to the point that now she needs medication if there's any hope of getting through the drive safely (her and our safety both). She also must be in a crate, definitely for her safety.
BUT! Around town, she's a champ - she loves to drive with us - no issues, and a simple metal divider between the back and the front of the car is all she needs (I drive a MINI so there's not much there) and her favorite trip is always to Dairy Queen to get a Pup Cup (no charge!).
If your dog has fear and anxiety issues while traveling, please see your vet about medication help. Everybody will feel better!
